Mattress toppers – Which is right for you?

Mattress Toppers

Mattress toppers can come in a range of shapes and sizes. Memory foam, latex foam, reflex foam, down filled and so on. But their mission is the same}. To make your sleep more comfortable. We all want quality sleep and a topper is a great way to achieve this without having to fork out for an entirely new mattress.

The topper sits on top of your mattress and acts as a comfort layer between your body and the springy mattress below. This can help prevent the pressure points that can build up when you lie on a sprung mattress and can stop lumpy mattresses digging into you.

But with a massive range of choice on the market, which mattress topper will offer you your perfect night’s sleep? Well let’s see what each kind of topper can offer so you can make a more informed choice.

Memory foam toppers

Memory foam topers are in my opinion the most common kind of topper you will see on the market, and it’s easy to see why. Memory foam offers a high level of comfort and at a value price. Memory foam is the perfect material for a topper because it can be packed and delivered easily. When you unpack a memory foam topper it slowly returns to its original shape.

Latex foam toppers

Latex foam is rather similar to memory foam, though it is slightly stiffer and less giving when you lie on it. This means that it can be uncomfortable for some while others really like the support it offers. The best kind of latex foam is known as Talalay latex. This is made from natural rubber rather than artificial variety and provides a better sleeping surface.

Reflex foam toppers

This is a less common type of topper but you can get them. Reflex foam is frequently used in mattresses to provide the core of a foam mattress with layers of memory foam and latex over it. Reflex foam is suited for this because it is stiff and offers a good supporting base. People do use 100% reflex foam mattresses and get on with them fine but if you’re looking for a comfortable night’s sleep then I would plump for a memory foam or latex foam topper.

Feather toppers

Feather toppers can be a great relief on a new, stiff mattress. They don’t offer much in the way of support but do offer a really comfy layer. This makes them not suited for older mattresses which don’t offer support in the first place (something a foam topper is more suited for) but if you have just got a new mattress and are finding it slightly firm this could be perfect for you.

They come in goose or duck feathers with goose feathers tending to cost more but being warmer and softer than ducks. However a quality duck filled topper might be better than a cheap goose topper.
